Advocare 24 Day Challenge – Who’s With Us?

On February 15th, Danielle will begin the Advocare 24 Day Challenge to help get back into shape after having her baby.  Who out there wants to join her?  The Challenge is a great way to help clean up your eating habits, whether you overindulged during the holidays, at the Superbowl, or perhaps ate a little too much candy at Valentine’s Day.
What exactly is the Advocare 24 Day Challenge?
Simply put, it’s a comprehensive supplementation and nutrition program designed to give your body the jump start it needs to help you reach your goals.
There’s something for everyone, whether you are looking for weight management, energy, overall body composition, or body wellness.  You will have access to a daily nutrition guide that will help you with water and food recommendations, along with healthy recipes that can be used in conjunction with the challenge food recommendations.
And yes, there is even an app for your phone to help keep you on track.
Let us know if you are interested and Danielle will help to get you set up with everything that you will need to get started on February 15th.

It’s almost Holiday Season, a time for shared joy and pleasure, family reunions…and eating. Many people dread this time of year and struggle with the eternal question:

Do I try to be good and eat well or do I give in and worry about it later?

This can be a tough time of year. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and then it’s Christmas, then New Year. Between now and then there are get-togethers with friends and family, and eating and drinking galore. It can be hard to find the time to work out, never mind the eating well.

At Giant Strides we believe in a balance between exercise and eating well. It’s the holiday season, after all, and if you’re not going to be miserable, you’ll want to partake. But you don’t have to surrender completely and then pay the price in your New Year’s resolutions…here’s our “top 5” list of holiday fitness and eating tips.

5) Walk More

Consider making shorter trips on foot. Of course, personal safety is paramount, so don’t take any risks. However, walking as much as possible helps burn calories. If you don’t have time during the week, try and get a hike in at the weekend. Consider Giant Strides Hiking Club, where you can meet like-minded people and enjoy a low-impact workout with breathtaking views and all the health benefits that go with it!

4) Eat Slowly

It can take several minutes for the stomach to catch up to the brain (or vice versa). Especially at this time of year, it’s easy to overeat. By the time the stomach gets the “I’m full” message to the brain, we’re stuffed to capacity and feeling it.

3) Casual Exercise

You don’t have to do a full workout all the time. Add a couple of pounds of weight when you’re walking, either with small dumbbells or ankle or wrist weights. Watching TV? Try some crunches while you’re doing so. If you can find time for an early morning class, join us for one of the Giant Strides Weekly Workout programs. You don’t have to be there every day, but once or twice a week will help you keep in shape over the holidays!

2) Stay Hydrated

Drink lots of water. This may sound obvious, but it’s easy at this time of year to forgo water in favor of other things. Water keeps your system flushed, and it has the added benefit of making you feel a little more “full”, so you won’t be as hungry…or tempted! Try to keep sodas, alcohol and other beverages to a minimum.

…and our top tip…

1) Give Yourself a Break!

You’re only human. If you overdo it once or twice, it’s okay to forgive yourself. Try to add an exercise session or two to make up for it. Don’t let it ruin your holidays. The important thing is to try and find a balance between having fun and staying in shape. It shouldn’t be a chore!

Feel free to contact us with any questions. You’re always welcome to join one of our sessions, even at the last-minute. Most of our fitness programs have drop-in slots so if you find you have an hour to spare, come join us. Visit our website at

Have a wonderful and safe holiday season!
